1. Preparation is Key Before Leaving Home
Before setting foot in a dog-friendly cafe, make sure you take these steps:
- The "Potty Walk": Never take a dog directly into a restaurant with a full bladder or stomach. Walk them nearby for 10-15 minutes first to let them relieve themselves.
- Exercise First: A tired dog is a well-behaved dog. Give your dog a vigorous walk or play session before dining so they are happy to rest under the table.
- Pack the Essentials: Always bring:
- A portable water bowl
- Your dog's favorite quiet chew toy (to keep them occupied)
- Wet wipes and poop bags
- A small pet mat or towel if they prefer lying on a soft surface.
2. Settling In at the Table
When you arrive and are seated, establish boundary rules immediately:
